HBO’s Euphoria premiered earlier this summer with plot lines following high school students as they navigated anxiety, addiction, depression and other heavy topics, including one abusive relationship between two teenage characters.

But some fans have become obsessed with one plot point in that couple’s plotline that is outside of the more obvious serious topics, and it has to do with their height difference — with some calling it the ‘sexiest thing ever’.

These admissions were further heightened on social media after one particular scene during the show featured Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, and Maddy, played by Alexa Demie, walking down the hallway together.

Cosmopolitan first noticed the obsession fans had with the characters’ height difference, calling it ‘the most controversial 10 inches on television’.

Fans online confessed to being obsessed with the height difference even though it has been slowly revealed to viewers the toxic nature of Nate and Maddy’s relationship.

‘Cant sleep knowing nate and maddy from euphoria may be toxic but they have the sexiest height difference out here,’ one viewer wrote on Twitter.

Another fan said: ‘Alright alright Nate and Maddy’s relationship is toxic af but like wow have u ever seen a more beautiful height difference…it’s so good.’

The height difference resonated with some viewers who confessed to being in similar relationships.

‘Although i DEFINITELY dont ship Maddy and Nate (@euphoriaHBO), i definitely ship the height difference bc i FEEL SEEN,’ one commenter wrote before detailing the height difference in her own relationship.

One fan thought the height difference was in their future relationship depending on who they decided to date.

‘Thinking about how this is going to be me if I date any man taller than 5’10,’ the fan wrote while sharing a picture of Maddy and Nate.

Jacob’s height for the role of Nate specifically attracted one fan to watch the show from the beginning, they confessed.

‘He is the only reason i started watching this show,’ the fan wrote. ‘I love tall guys.’

But there were some people who were logistically concerned about the height difference between the couple given their toxic relationship.

The toxicity of their relationship reached a peak in the most recent episode of Euphoria (spoiler alert) when Nate choked Maddy against a trailer after she confronted his mom while high on molly.

Nate only let go of her throat after Maddy revealed she discovered some personal pictures and text messages on his phone.

Given how Nate is significantly bigger than Maddy, it could potentially create problems for her well-being if their relationship becomes more abusive in future episodes.
