Even megastars like Jenna Ortega have bad hair days. The star, who chopped her hair into a shaggy wolf cut almost immediately after Wednesday was released on Netflix, said that while her glam team usually takes care of her coiffure, particularly her bangs, sometimes a bad hair day is a bad hair day — and that’s what hats are for.
Jenna shared all her beauty secrets with Glamour, saying that hair care products aren’t in her budget. “If it’s a good hair day, it’s a good hair day. And if it’s not, well that’s too bad,” she explained .”I’m never going to concern myself with any hair product, I don’t think.” She depends on her stylist for help with the textured cut, but when they’re not around, sometimes you just gotta reach for your favorite hat. “When I air-dry it, it doesn’t naturally have a bit of a wave. I will say that having fringe, there is effort that is put in there, which is really unfortunate,” Jenna shared. “But that’s a blow-dryer. Or sometimes, best of luck to you, wear a cap.” Been there!
Jenna’s now-iconic cut was an “impulsive” decision she made with her stylist Dave Stanwell. “When I told my hairdresser that I wanted to cut my hair, we were referring to it as a shag,” she recalled. “And then people were saying, ‘wolf cut.’ What the hell is that? It’s kind of cute. It’s cute.” It is cute and perfect for the Wednesday star and her signature brand of effortless cool.
Jenna keeps the rest of her beauty routine just as simple. Her absolute beauty essentials are pretty bare bones: Vaseline or Aquaphor, sunscreen, and a hairbrush. “I’m just trying to go real basic survival needs and I think that’s right,” she explained of her ultra-essential picks.
The star also shared that she doesn’t often wear nail polish, opting only for a clear coat if anything. When she does go for color, though, it’s a shade Wednesday Addams would definitely approve of. “I usually like to keep them pretty short and clean,” the actor said of her mani preferences. “But I will say I feel like black is always a safe bet.” However, she did admit that she is experimenting with more manicure hues as of late. “Recently, I did a deep red or something like that for a press appearance, and I felt like I wanted to talk with my hands, which must mean I liked it.” Experimentation is key!
