he Lindsay Lohan comeback is officially underway, and it’s not just going according to plan—it’s going even better. Crunching some numbers for The Ankler, Sean McNulty found that Lohan’s Falling for Christmas had the fourth-biggest opening weekend for a Netflix original since May. Snagging more than 31.2 million views in its first four days on the service, it’s running right behind Enola Holmes 2, according to Netflix’s own top 10, with more than 48 million hours viewed in its first week.

What do all of those vague numbers actually mean? As usual with Netflix, it’s hard to know, though their internal numbers will tell them a lot more about the return on investment they’re getting from the two-picture deal Lohan signed earlier this year. But even in the sea of Christmas content that starts rolling out this time of year, Falling for Christmas is clearly standing out. Lohan’s costar Chord Overstreet is getting the SEO-friendly “who is he dating?” media treatment. Her outfits are getting recreated. And the reviews, while not glowing, have been kind in a way that suggests a welcome comeback. As our own Richard Lawson wrote, “I’d happily watch her in more after this—though preferably in something a bit meatier than a Hallmark knock-off.”

It’s even harder to know if this will lead to the full-blown Lohan comeback she’s deserved for over a decade. Crossing from made-for-TV rom-com stardom to something more robust can be a challenge—just ask Luke MacFarlane, who made his name in Hallmark movies before costarring in Bros earlier this year, and who told VF’s David Canfield, “If you go to my IMDB page, there’s a lot of me holding hands with some nice Christian white lady—like, yeah, I’m terrified. I’m totally freaked out by that.”

But then again, few people make Hallmark-adjacent Christmas rom-coms when they’ve been as famous as Lohan, whose off-screen behavior so overshadowed her career that she’s spent much of the past decade living in Dubai, where “I don’t have to be publicly seen all the time, or discuss what I’m doing.” Now engaged to a Dubai-based businessman (who apparently proposed to her on the set of Falling for Christmas), the 36-year-old Lohan is clearly entering a new phase in her life. Will that phase include a dozen more holiday rom-coms? If you’re working at Netflix, you may very well be hoping the answer is yes.
