Madison Beer Speaks Out Amid Rumors She’s a Zionist

Singer Madison Beer, who is Jewish, has finally spoken out following rumors that she’s a Zionist.

On October 7, the Palestinian militant group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking another 240 captive. Israel subsequently launched airstrikes on Gaza, which is governed by Hamas, before commencing a ground offensive into the territory. As of January 15, 24,100 people in the Gaza Strip have been killed, according to figures from the Associated Press, citing Gaza’s health authorities.

Speculation that Beer was a Zionist started when people claimed she liked and unliked an Instagram post that said “the occupation of Palestine is a lie.” Since then a variety of rumors have surrounded the pop singer online, with some people claiming her brother and father are Zionists, as well as some of her friends.

Newsweek reached out to Beer’s publicist for comment via email Thursday.

Zionism refers to the Jewish nationalist movement formed in 1897 that pushed to create a state for Jewish people in Palestine. It eventually led to the creation of Israel in 1948, following the Holocaust. However, some critics of Zionism have argued that this forced Palestinians off their land.

While Beer has never responded to these claims, she took to X, formerly Twitter, on January 18, to share her thoughts on the Israeli-Hamas conflict. “if you think id ever want an innocent person to be killed you do not know me and that is simply outrageous,” Beer said. “you can be jewish and also want peace for all people including Palestinian people. which is OF COURSE what i want. no innocent person deserves to die.”

Her tweet was in response to X user @betdovewanna who posted: “‘madison’s jewish’ okay and? you can be jewish and not want any of this happening???”

The fan then responded to Beer’s post to clarify that they weren’t “hating” on her, to which Beer said: “i know you weren’t my love !! 🤍 i agreed with what you said ! no worries.”

While people have thanked her for speaking out on the issue, many have said it’s too little too late. Taking to Beer’s replies, they have shared their frustration and asked why it’s taken her so long to share such a statement.

“Ik [I know] it’s hard to appease everyone, but this response just kinda disappoints me. she isn’t necessarily siding with palestine. she’s rather trying to take a middle ground. which reminder, you can’t really take in this situation,” one person wrote.

“love you madison and i appreciate you speaking up, but please speak up for PALESTINE specifically. You can’t be neutral on this you just can’t. Palestine are the ones who need peace, not Israel,” said another.

“i think ppl are rightfully upset you’ve been so silent about it this far. it’s hard to judge where you’re at when you’ve gave us nothing,” a third person wrote.

A fourth added: “She basically said all lives matter statement as expected…”

Others stood up for the singer and said she was going to face persecution from people online no matter what she said.

“She still gon get backlash cuz these people are never satisfied,” one person said.

“yall are why celebrities dont speak up. mad when they don’t and mad when they do,” another X user posted.

A third added: “Thank u madison for speaking up.”

People have also taken issue with Beer following Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp on Instagram, who has found himself under fire on various occasions due to his remarks about the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

This included a clip that circulated online of him with stickers that read “Zionism is Sexy.”

“Why am I not shocked,” one person wrote on X alongside a screenshot of her account following his.

“what if i say madison beer is a zionist? like y’all cmon now she follows noah schnapp openly a zionist, her father and brother posts support on isnotreal and also after most of us tagged her she deleted her ig [Instagram] story likkee [sic] i’m not even surprised if she support isnotreal,” another person posted, referring to Israel when they wrote “isnotreal.”
