Demi Lovato to Headline Global Citizen Festival

Lovatics, prepare to be thrilled. Selenators…not so much.

Demi Lovato has stepped in to headline 2016’s Global Citizen Festival after Selena Gomez had to drop out due to health issues, People reports. The singer, who is currently on her Future Now tour with Nick Jonas, will be headlining alongside artists including Rihanna and Kendrick Lamar.

“The Global Citizen Festival combines music and activism in a way that inspires and affects millions around the world,” Demi said in a statement. “I am proud to support this amazing organization’s ongoing efforts to improve global healthcare and to end extreme poverty.”

Selena, who was also in the midst of her Revival World Tour, was slated to perform until she announced last week that she was taking time off to deal with anxiety and depression and wanted to “be proactive and focus on maintaining [her] health and happiness.”

Tickets can’t be bought — only earned through community action — but the star-studded show will also air on MSNBC and stream on YouTube beginning at 3 p.m. EST.
