Fans accuse Nickelodeon of ‘sexualizing and infantilizing’ singer Ariana Grande

The children’s entertainment company Nickelodeon has been accused of sexualizing the actress and singer Ariana Grande when she was a teenager.

The interpreter of “7 Rings” rose to fame at a young age, thanks to her role as Cat Valentine in the successful series “Victorious” in 2010.

In addition, it is famous for its passage to the spin-off, “Sam Cat,” along with Jennette McCurdy, who in turn achieved international fame for the production, “iCarly,” where she played the role of Sam Puckett, in 2013.

However, after McCurdy’s memoirs were published on August 9, in which he talks about the alleged exploitation of which he was a victim during his time on the network by someone he referred to as “The Creator,” users of social networks have wondered if Ariana Grande had the same luck.

Twitter user @veronasfilms shared a series of suggestive clips of the 29-year-old in the role of Cat in the Nickelodeon series, which was written and directed by Dan Schneider.

In the videos, he could be seen putting his fingers in his mouth at one point while trying to “squeeze a potato.” She was filmed trying to stick a toe in her mouth in a skit before lying on a bed and pouring water on herself. Ariana Grande was 16 years old at the time of filming.

“Everyone keeps including Ariana Grande in the Jennette drama, and I don’t know why. Let’s not forget that Ariana is a victim of Dan Schneider’s grossness“, the publication said. “That’s why she no longer talks about the role of Cat Valentine. She was sexualized and infantilized“, he added.

It should be noted that Grande has not spoken out against Schneider, even participating in the tenth anniversary of “Sam Cat” in 2020.

A few days ago, Jennette McCurdy officially released her memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” which claims she was sexualized as a child.

In the book, the former actress details her abusive relationship with her mother and her experience as a Nickelodeon actress.

While she doesn’t mention Schneider by name, she does refer to someone as “The Creator” when she claims she was supplied with alcohol when she was underage and was forced to re-shoot their first on-screen kiss several times on another occasion.

The ‘iCarly’ actress says “The Creator” also gave her a shoulder massage against her wishes and was “terrified of being seen as a sexual being” during his time in the public eye.

Schneider created “Victorious,” “iCarly,” “Sam Cat,” and a host of shows for Nickelodeon before leaving the company in 2018.

He previously denied accusations that he “sexualized” child actors on his shows in a 2021 interview with the New York Times, dismissing the claims as “ridiculous.”

“I would not have the long-standing friendship and continued loyalty of so many renowned people if I had mistreated my actors of any age, especially minors,” he told the publication. “I am willing to stand up for the creative things I believe in. The comedy was totally innocent“, he sentenced.
