Cher catapulted to fame aged 19, with hit 1965 song ‘I got you babe’ (as part of pop duo Sonny & Cher), and Dua Lipa also got her big break as a teenager, signing with Warner Music Group in 2015 when she was just 15.

That’s before the multi-Grammy winner released her first single ‘New Love’ in the same year.

But as much as Cher, 76, and Lipa, 27, are multi-award winning artists in their own right, they’re also from different generations.

This is something a fan of the singers pointed out in a since deleted tweet that ‘Believe’ singer Cher publicly commented on.

The Twitter user referred to Lipa as ‘the Cher of our generation [sic]’.

Another user later retweeted the message, along with a caption that read: ‘So much truth in one tweet [sic].’

The same fan tagged both singers in the tweet, prompting Oscar-winner Cher to reply.

She questioned the remark, writing: ‘How many yrs are in a generation [sic].’

The tweet posted by the original user included a video from the 2021 Grammy Awards, which saw Lipa looking strikingly similar to Cher in a sheer crystal-covered Versace gown.

Many pointed out that it resembled one that Cher wore to the 1974 Academy Awards ceremony.

Speaking of the Versace design at the time, Lipa told Entertainment Tonight: ‘Butterflies have had like a lot of symbolism for me this year, and it’s actually got a lot of symbolism for Versace too. So it was really cool to get to come together and make something cute.’

There’s no denying that as well as the pair both being celebrated for their vocal talent, they are noted for their daring fashion choices too.

Cher has been known to turn up to high-profile events in revealing looks, like the sequinned gown she wore to the 1987 Oscars.

And, similarly, on August 27 Lipa attended the wedding Of fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus and Marco Maestri in the South of France wearing a gauzy number designed by the groom.

Her daring but delicate look broke traditional wedding guest conventions, and convention and boundary-breaking is something that Cher is also known for.
