“What’s your favorite horror movie?” Demi Lovato asked on Feb. 15, and nearly a month later, she gave fans a reason to make up their minds about what’s to come scream VI. Demi, 30, not only shared “Still Alive,” the debut single of the Scream the sequel’s soundtrack, but a music video that could be seen as an entry into the long-running horror franchise. In the graphic, Demi (walking after you) rocks a leather jacket and a Sexy sheer top while battling Ghostface.
She seemed poised to take on the non-discriminatory horror hero, and the song carried retro-rock echoes of the 1990s – an era of rebirth for horror films and the landscape Wes Craven lives in Scream first appeared. “If anyone asks/I turn back time/Hunt the ghost that would haunt me at night/Face my past because I’m ready for battle,” she sings in the perfect horror movie anthem.

The video was punctuated with scenes from the film as well as Demi in a cinema. She also belted out the new hit in front of a lavish glᴀss room filled with chandeliers and skylights.
Demi shared the single’s artwork on February 15. Her boyfriend, jutes (fka Jute$), hyped the release in the comment section of the post. “lfg baby… you don’t miss it,” he wrote along with a heart-for-eye emoji. Less than two weeks later, she released some behind-the-scenes footage of the music video shoot, including a picture of her in her jacket, the scene where she is over Ghostface’s body hunched over, Ghostface slumped in the corner, and a Revealing the actor behind the mask (which Demi later put over her face.
Demi is now joining a club of musicians who made original songs for horror movies, which includes such stars as Michael Jackson (“Ben”), Alice Cooper (“He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)”), docks (“Dream Warrior”), The Dickies (“Killer Clowns from Outer Space”), J. Geil’s band (“Fright Night”) and Echo and the Bunnymen (her cover of “People Are Strange” for The Lost Boy counts!) Normally Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is the plot most ᴀssociated with the Scream Series using her “Red Right Hand”. Scream, scream 2, scream 3 and the 2022 Scream – aka scream 5.
Still Alive is Demi’s first new music since unleashing her new metal/rock direction with 2022 HOLY FVCK. The album peaked at number 7 on the billboard 200 and topped the Top Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts. As of 2022, the album has a Metacritic score of 78, with COLLISION Saying the album “serves as a brilliant testament to Lovato’s hard rock prowess. Lovato suits hard rock, these vocals are absolutely gorgeous when paired with a powerful burst of heavy soundscapes. While Lovato can hit a summer-ready banger, it’s just as exciting to see her lurking in the shadows.”
Demi may not be lurking in the shadows much longer. In September 2022, she said: “This next tour will be my last. I love and thank you guys. I can not do this anymore. I’m so damn sick I can’t get out of bed.” In October, she had to postpone a concert because she lost her voice.
