Demi Lovato Is Taking a Social Media Break—Here’s What’s Going On

There’s been a lot of drama in the pop music universe this week.

Demi Lovato announced late on Wednesday (July 3) via her Instagram Stories that she was logging off and taking a break from her social media accounts for a little while. It came after a pretty intense couple of days that kicked off Sunday, June 30, when Taylor Swift accused Lovato’s new manager, Scooter Braun, of “bullying” following news of his acquisition of Swift’s back catalog. Following Swift’s emotional letter, which was posted publicly on Tumblr, some celebrities joined ranks with Team Taylor or Team Scooter; Lovato joined Braun’s side of things. (More on that here.)

She took to Instagram Stories to defend Braun after Swift posted her letter. “I have dealt with bad people in this industry and Scooter is not one of them. He’s a good man,” Lovato wrote. “Personally, I’m grateful he came into my life when he did. Please stop ‘dragging’ people or bullying them. There’s enough hate in this world as it is.”

“Y’all can come after me all you want but I’m always gonna stay loyal to my team,” she continued. “I value loyalty more than most people in this world and if my name is gonna be brought into conversations I’m gonna stand up for myself and the ones on my team.”

She also got into a beef with Todrick Hall (former Braun client but Team Taylor) after he called Braun “homophobic” on Instagram. “Hey boo, idk you or anything and this isn’t hate, but making claims that someone is homophobic is really serious. Please don’t spread information that isn’t true because I can guarantee you Scooter isn’t,” Lovato commented. “As a member of the LBGTQ+ community myself, he wouldn’t have signed me if he was. No hate just trying to clear that up.” Hall responded, and there’s more on that here if you need a catch-up.

On Wednesday, Lovato signed off for a while, posting an Instagram story that read, “Taking a break for a while. Be kind,” signed off with a red heart emoji.

It seems the whole week has been a lot for everyone, and Lovato’s taking a second to sit back from it all. Not to worry, though: The singer’s been known to take a hiatus and then get back online after a while. We’re sure she’ll return, but hopefully everyone is finding a little peace over this long holiday weekend.
