Demi Lovato took to Twitter early Friday morning to defend her MTV VMA’s performance.

Lovato rocked the VMA’s stage with a remix of “Cool for the Summer” featuring a surprise appearance by Iggy Azalea, but apparently there were some people who were surprised by the sexy performance, a departure from the feel-good anthems for which Lovato is best known.

One of those people in particular was singer P!NK who expressed her dissatisfaction with many VMA’s performances for being “gross and embarassing” via her personal Instagram, which is set to private. The singer also added that she “felt sad because music is supposed to inspire.”

Being that it’s 2015, someone took a screenshot of P!NK’s Instagram comment and it began making rounds on Twitter, especially among Demi Lovato fans.

Demi also promised that even if “Cool for the Summer” isn’t the inspirational song some people are expecting from her, they have a lot to look forward to on her upcoming album:
