Dua Lipa doesn’t just bring the drama to her on-stage wardrobe – her own personal collection is filled with maximalist archival pieces and new-gen treasures. But even Dua has been won over by the pared-back outfits that dominated the fall 2023 collections.

When out for dinner in London this week, instead of a mesh dress or a flamboyant print, the singer wore a simple white button-down shirt with high-waisted blue jeans. The look is definitely in line with the mood of the moment: last month Valentino opened its haute couture show in Paris with Kaia Gerber wearing a meticulously crafted version of jeans and a white shirt.

While Dua usually favors eccentric accessories, such as layered-up vintage gold chains and rainbow-hued bags, she embraced the polished feel of the look and wore chunky oversized silver earrings, a black leather Gucci Jackie bag and a black leather belt. It’s her shoes, though, that add an extra fashion edge to this look. She wore a pair of Maison Margiela Mary-Jane flats, with the distinctive Tabi split-toe that’s a signature for the fashion house and is used across its footwear offering, from boots to ballet flats.

Fashion-forward dressers like Björk and Chloë Sevigny were early adopters of the Tabi silhouette, which first debuted in 1988. However, the Tabi continues to gain a new fanbase: earlier this month Zendaya was spotted wearing both the white and black split-toe ballerinas.
