Here’s Everything That Happened On The First Stop Of Dua Lipa’s ‘Future Nostalgia’ Tour

Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia tour has been a long time coming. She was due to start it around the release of the record back in early 2020 but the universe obviously had other plans. It’s been rescheduled multiple times but finally, the tour began this week in Miami, the first stop of the US tour. She’s not due to hit Australia until November of this year but if you can’t wait that long, here’s a primer of everything that happened on the first night of the tour so you know what to expect.

The Show Is Split Into Four Acts

Lipa is giving us big popstar energy with this show. While her previous tours were a little more low-key, this is an arena-ready production and she’s designed the setlist to reflect it. It is split into four acts. The first seems to be full of bangers, the second looks to be more low-key, the third is for the club-heads and the fourth is for, well, just Levitating. She then returns for an encore which in Miami included the title track of Future Nostalgia and Don’t Start Now.

It’s Future Nostalgia-Heavy

Lipa revealed to Stephen Colbert that had she gone on tour when she intended to, the setlist would have been more of a greatest hits offering but now it’s changed. The monumental success of Future Nostalgia means she’s now packed it full of songs from the album. Those who were hoping for a little more of DL1 will have to settle for just New Rules and Be The One. The only other songs on the 18-song setlist that don’t feature on Future Nostalgia are Cold Heart with Elton John, One Kiss with Calvin Harris and Electricity with Silk City. Meanwhile, every single song on the standard edition of Future Nostalgia is included.

Club Future Nostalgia Is Back

Lipa turned living rooms into dancefloors in 2020 when she unveiled Club Future Nostalgia – a remix album of Future Nostalgia curated and mixed by The Blessed Madonna. Throughout all her live streams and performances she’s made reference to the record and she brings it back for the tour. Act 3 looks to be for the club-heads with the act starting with a medley of remixes from that album including the Zach Witness remix of Boys Will Be Boys and the Jayda G remix of Cool.

The Outfits Are Perfect
Future Nostalgia is disco heaven and the fashion on the tour is serving Studio 54 in 2054. From fluorescent catsuits to glittery, see-through body suits, Lipa understands the assignment.

Choreo!
There was a point when Lipa was bullied online for her dance ability with a video of one of her signature moves going viral. Well, on the Future Nostalgia tour, she brings that move back and serves much more.

Yes, She Does Levitate
For those wondering whether she would take Levitating seriously, she does. Lipa takes to the sky for Levitating on a glittery platform suspended above the arena. She’s levitating!

The Critics Loved It
The fans were always going to love the tour but it seems that the critics are enamored with it too. Rolling Stone praised her for using the two year delay to hone her pop powers writing, “The display served as a powerful reminder of Lipa’s pop savvy.” Meanwhile, Consequence Of Sound wrote, “Lipa delivered exactly the kind of lively, dynamic show fans have been aching for.”
