During her interview for Variety’s Young Hollywood issue, Olivia reflects on her rapid and crazy rise to fame and opened up about getting advice on how to deal with it from Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez.

“I met Selena, and she was so kind,” Olivia said. “She talked to me a lot about prioritizing mental health, which I think is really important in this industry. All of us were in the limelight very young… That can be taxing on your psyche and can bring about all these weird issues.”

Making sure to show gratitude to the women who have come before her, Olivia expressed her appreciation saying, “It’s so nice to be welcomed into the music industry and so great to be supportive of other women.”

One of those very supportive women is our Y2K and current punk-pop princess obsession, Avril Lavigne, who’s also another person who knows what it’s like to grow up as a young woman under the intense spotlight of the music industry.

Speaking about the influence Olivia’s already started to build, Avril noted, “I think it’s important for people like Olivia to give an honest voice to so many young women who are still discovering themselves.” She continued, “Her songs are her truth, and you can really feel that. You can tell it’s real by the way all of her fans grab onto every single word she says.”

Additionally, as we already knew, besides just being a Swiftie in general, Taylor Swift is a major one of Olivia’s biggest songwriting influences. Remember when she freaked out that their names we’re next to each other on the music charts? So to say that her reaching out to Rodrigo was extra SWEET, and anything but SOUR, would be putting it lightly.

“She wrote me a letter a while ago,” talking about Swift, “and she wrote something about how you make your own luck in the world, and how you treat other people always comes back to you,” Olivia said. Continuing to try and articulate the contents of the letter, Olivia continued, “I don’t know, she put it so eloquently, and when I say it now… it’s not as cool.”

Well, it all still sounds like some great advice, especially coming from these sources, seeing as they know a thing or two about growing up in the limelight. Ugh, we just love it when women support women.

One way Olivia already goes about dealing with her rapid rise to fame is through help from her fans. Expressing her admiration for them to the publication, Rodrigo said, “It makes me feel so much less alone when a fan says, ‘That perfectly captured how I felt in my relationship.’ That makes me feel so seen.”

Seeing the pop princess club welcome Olivia with open arms, it’s apparent these ladies are committed to being there for one another. From celebrating each others successes, sharing advice whether focused on mental health or not – they are a true support system for each other to make sure someone is always there.

In that same way, Audacy’s I’m Listening initiative aims to encourage those who are dealing with mental health issues to understand they are not alone. If you or anyone you know is struggling with depression or anxiety, know that someone is always there.
