IDOL END American Idol 2024 finale LIVE — Winner Abi Carter leaves Katy Perry in tears as fans spot ‘surprise’ dress detail

AMERICAN Idol has declared its Season 22 winner.

Abi Carter fell to the floor sobbing when host Ryan Seacrest announced that she beat out finalist Will Moseley for the crown – and judge Katy Perry was then shown in tears as Abi sang Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For?, which was her original audition song.

Earlier in the show, Katy performed a duet with third-place winner Jack Blocker and left fans floored by the reveal of her giant dress, which included pictures of 168 American Idol finalists from Katy’s seven seasons on the show.

“I thought a good way to honor my time here would be to put the top 24 of each season on my skirt so they were all there,” Katy told Entertainment Tonight after the show.

“It was a fun surprise because I was raising up and you just saw more and more contestants.”

“Beautiful, meaningful dress. Beautiful tribute. Thank you Katy,” one fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, as another added, “once again the queen out did herself with faces of idols dress.”

Fans ‘worried’ for Wynonna Judd, part two

On X, formerly known as Twitter, fans were quick to point out Wynonna’s static performance, with many voicing concern about her health.

“Wynonna Judd really didn’t move at all during her song. It was slightly disturbing,” one person said.

“@Wynonna is DEFINITELY hiding some kind of health issue on @AmericanIdol,” a second claimed.

“Something’s off with Wynonna,” said a third social media user.

“Wynonna… it’s giving you don’t wanna be there,” a fourth snarked.

“What is wrong with #Wynonna she acted the same way when she sang with #JellyRoll,” another fan observed.

Country music legend Wynonna Judd performed alongside Emmy Russell for the American Idol final on Sunday.

For their live gig, Wynonna, 59, and the young star sang Coal Miner’s Daughter, which was originally released by Emmy’s grandmother Loretta Lynn.

Wynonna took to the stage in a full face of makeup, with a cowboy hat covering her bright red hair.

The celebrity added sparkling jewelry to her look, and embellished her black blazer with blue stones.

Despite her bold fashion, however, Wynonna seemed meek on stage, barely moving as she sang beautifully.

“I couldn’t have imagined winning #americanidol when I started this whole journey.

“We haven’t had a girl winner in over 4 years and to be the first after so many seasons is the greatest honor.

“I’m just a girl from Indio, who used to sing on street corners, and now I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to work with some of the most talented people in the industry and be heard by millions of people.

“This is my dream and I know it’s just the beginning. I love you all so much. #idol.”

Luke addresses rumors of feud with Lionel, continued

“I read the tabloid,” Bryan said honestly, “And I’m like, ‘Me and Lionel in a feud over Katy’s replacement…’ You can’t feud with Lionel.

“Lionel’s like – I mean he’s like apple pie. You know, he’s like the most wholesome human. So me and Lionel are good.”

Luke Bryan addresses rumors of feud with Lionel Richie

Some speculations arose about tensions between Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie following the announcement of Katy Perry’s departure.

Bryan addressed these rumors head-on during a recent guest spot on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“I heard rumors, and these are tabloid rumors, that you and Lionel are feuding… Is there any truth to that?” Kimmel asked Bryan.

“Yeah, me and Lionel – it’s tense on the set,” Bryan said with sarcasm.

“You know Lionel, how combative he is. You saw how awful he was on ‘The Greatest Night in Pop,’ you know how he just tried to ruin that whole scenario.”

Katy was not engaged during taping, part three

Meanwhile, the other American Idol judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, were “very engaging” with the crowd and stood up during breaks to take selfies or sign posters and even sneakers.

The insider went on to say that she only got up once to give her note card, which she signed, to a singer’s relative.

And at the end of the show, she “finally caved in and walked to three different groups in the audience to take selfies.”

She then walked with the other judges to take a group photo with the remaining contestants.

Judge Katy Perry, 39, might have sobbed and voiced her opinion after each performance, but behind the scenes, she acted completely different.

An insider revealed to The U.S. Sun that during each commercial break, Katy was “glued to her phone” and “completely ignored” the audience.

“It was off-putting to see how she was so into her phone and ignored fans who were shouting her name.

“Fans shouted, ‘Katy! Katy!” and, ‘We love you Katy!’ and if anything, she would quickly turn around to glance at them, but then went back to texting,” the insider shared.

“She acted very cold toward the audience and would not sign any autographs or take any photos with them.”

What Emmy said about her grandma

When Luke Bryan asked Emmy Russell where she sings during her audition, Russell responded, “I don’t really sing out as much anymore, but growing up I sang on the road, my grandma’s a country singer.”

Viewers then got to see a tour of her “meemaw’s house” in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Following her successful audition, Russell shared her excitement for the road ahead.

“I was thinking about my grandma, but I was also like ‘Emmy, she’s with you, and now it’s your turn. I think I’m more like her now than I was whenever I was trying to be like her,” the musician said.

“Excited. I’m really excited,” she added.
