‘I’ve never felt so confident in my skin’: Demi Lovato says she’s overcome insecurities about her body image in new interview

Demi Lovato says she is more confident with her body than ever.

The singer revealed during an interview with Allure that it has only been in the last year that she has gained this level of comfort in her own skin.

‘I’ve never felt as confident in my skin as I do today,’ the singer said.

‘A year ago, on tour, almost every inch of my body was covered by clothing,’ she continued, ‘and it was because I was hiding behind so many layers.’

‘Once I started feeling better about myself, I felt better about showing more skin,’ she added.

‘I have insecurities about my arms, so to wear a tank top on stage is extremely liberating for me, and uncomfortable sometimes. It’s also a statement, like, “Hey, watch out. You’re no longer getting the insecure Demi that you’ve been getting for the past couple of years. I mean business now.”‘

She also talked with the magazine about her teeth.

‘I signed with Disney Channel when I got Camp Rock, and I had a gap between my two front teeth,’ Demi explained in a recent interview with Allure magazine.

‘They were like, ‘Would you be willing to fix it?’ I wish today that I hadn’t, because my gap was really cute.’

Because she has famously endured her own personal struggles including being spotted with cutting scars and struggles with bulimia, she feels like she could offer up guidance to others going through similar issues.

‘I realized I could help people,’ Demi told the publication. ‘It creates a conversation — there’s an opening for children themselves to actually come forward and say, “This is what I’m dealing with.” Or “I have a problem. I need help.”

As she has been so open about promoting a healthier view on body image, the singer has received plenty of backlash as she explained: ‘I’ll have people who are like, “Stop talking about eating disorders. Like, we get it. You struggled. Now shut up.”
