Madison Beer Had the Kindest Reactions to Fans’ Covering Her Songs

Madison Beer gained national attention in 2012 when Justin Bieber tweeted out a cover she did of Etta James’ “At Last.” Within hours of this happening, Beer was trending on Twitter, and Bieber subsequently signed her to his record label, Island Records. She’s been on a steady pop-music rise since then, with her latest single, “Home With You,” reaching number 22 on Billboard’s pop songs chart.\

“The song is so powerful,” Beer told Billboard about “Home With You.” “It’s obviously just a cool record, but the messaging behind it really speaks to me because I live in LA, I go out a lot, I see so much shit that I’m just like, ‘I wish that this song existed sooner and I wish the song could have came on and I could have sang this to a million people that I wanted to.'”

It’s only natural, then, that the Internet is now filled with videos of people covering Beer’s popular songs. Because Beer gained popularity through covers, the fact people are now doing renditions of her songs feels a little meta—but it’s happening. And many of the covers are very, very good.

Which made Beer a perfect next candidate for Glamour’s You Sang My Song video series. We had the singer stop by our office a few weeks ago and check out a few popular covers of her songs. Interestingly, Beer had actually heard a few of them already.

“I think I’ve actually seen this before,” Beer said about one of the girls covering her song “Say It to My Face.” “My favorite thing when people sing is when they have a slow vibrato like that. I’m so envious of anyone who can sing that way.”

That comment certainly made her fan’s day, for sure. Watch Beer’s other reactions to fan covers in the video, above.
