Madison Beer’s Addiction Issues Flew Under The Radar For Years, But Has She Overcome Them?

As Madison Beer was becoming famous and successful, she experienced a lot of pain and turmoil, and she has opened up about her mental health since.

Madison Beer has released two albums, “Life Support” and “Silence Between Songs,” and her music has allowed her to live a very nice lifestyle. After all, Beer has a $16 million net worth and bought a mansion for $5.6 million. But for several years, the singer had a difficult time with her mental health. This proves that everyone suffers at times, even if they have a ton of money in the bank or seem to have it all figured out. From the outside, fans might have thought that Beer was doing great and that she didn’t have a single worry in the world. But this wasn’t the case at all.

Talking about hard experiences can be the most healing thing that someone can do, and Madison Beer seems to agree with that. Here’s what happened to the young singer and whether she has been able to find peace and feel better.

What Addiction Issues Did Madison Beer Suffer From?
Fans weren’t sure about Madison Beer’s career, but the release of her 2023 album proves that she is here to stay. Sadly, while she was building her fanbase and continually working hard over the past few years, she was going through a horrible time that people didn’t know about.

Beer talked about her mental health in her memoir “The Half of It,” which was published in April 2023. There are many positive reviews of the book on Amazon.com, and the singer’s fans seem to have appreciated the fact that she told her story.

According to E! News, Beer began talking to a therapist after years of taking Xanax, self-harming, and having terrible thoughts about ending her life. But while she was in therapy, she was taking a lot of pills, which made the healing process difficult.

The publication reported that the singer experienced assault when she was 14 and when she was a kid. These experiences, along with finding out when she was 16 years old that her record label and manager fired her, were what led to her addiction.

Beer had two other awful experiences that contributed to her addiction: an intimate picture of her was shared online when she was only 15 years old, and she was bullied on the Internet when she was 12. When Beer was only a pre-teen, she began dating someone, and people said terrible things about her as a result.

In 2023, Madison Beer was interviewed on Alexandra Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast and talked more about what it was like to find out that her pictures were being shared online. Of course, this was a horrible invasion of privacy. Unfortunately, she shared videos with someone who made them public.

She explained, “It’s remained, so vividly to the point where I still, to this day, if I get a call in the middle of the night, I’m 15 again. And I’m in my room and I’m finding out that this video is out there and it’s really scary.”

While it would be tough for anyone to go through this, the fact that Beer was only a teenager at the time makes it even worse.

How Is Madison Beer’s Health Now?
In several interviews, Madison Beer has described being in a happier place. According to E! News, Beer learned that she has obsessive-compulsive disorder and borderline personality disorder. She explained that when she knew this, it felt easier to deal with what was going on.

In August 2020, Beer posted on Instagram that she was “officially one year clean of self-harm.” According to People, she wrote, “i never thought i’d be able to say this & i am so proud of myself. it has been an uphill battle, so whether you might b one day, one week, one month, or one year clean — i’m so proud of you.”

Beer talked about “Life Support,” her album that was released in 2019, in an interview with NME.com and said that she channeled her suffering into her music.

She explained, “[Creating my album] was my life support and that’s why I called this album ‘Life Support’. It kept me alive, I found a passion and something that felt good. I was like, this is a reason to live and this is enough. I can be here for this. It was a really special thing and an emotional journey.”

When someone is going through a lot, it can feel impossible to open up and share what is going on, but that is ultimately the only path to recovery. Now that she has some distance from the pain that she was feeling, Madison Beer has been speaking about what she went through. When she talks about her addiction, she describes what happened in the past, and it doesn’t sound like she is currently suffering.

She appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show in April 2023 and, according to Page Six, explained how she used to feel. She said, “I felt like I was putting on this facade and living this role I had been assigned, and it just all caught up to me one day.”

Also in 2023, Beer was interviewed by InStyle and said that she is doing well these days. She mentioned that her relationship with Nick Austin is healthy and also said that she can stand up for herself, which is cool to hear about.

Beer said, “I’m just kind of like, ‘You know what, if something doesn’t feel good to me or it doesn’t feel right, or if I want to remove myself [from] the situation, then I deserve to do so.”

Beer continued to InStyle, “I used to not allow myself to speak up, even when I felt like I should have, out of fear, and now I’m just like, ‘I owe it to myself to stand up for myself. Just like I would stand up for my best friend or someone that I really cared about.’”
