Maya Jama reveals if she’s hosting the next Love Island and talks about her favourite couple for the final as she looks glam in plunging waistcoat on The Jonathan Ross Show

Maya Jama spills the beans on hosting Love Island and who is her favourite couple to win this year’s winter series next week.

The presenter, 28, appears on The Jonathan Ross show, set to air on Saturday, just days before the final, set to air on Monday.

And Maya reveals if she will continue to take the helm of the ITV2 show: ‘I’m going to be doing the summer one. It starts in… summer.’

When quizzed who she wants to win, the TV star tells the host: ‘I’m not allowed to have favourites.

‘I really like Shaq just because he’s a hopeless romantic and he’s very cute and so in love. But then I also like Tom and Samie, they’re really fun and Tom’s gone on a journey.

Of taking the role over from Laura Whitmore, Maya says: ‘I was so nervous. Obviously it’s a very big show, everyone watches it, everyone’s got an opinion.

‘Quite a lot of people online were like, ‘We want Maya to host’. So it felt a bit like, I don’t want to let anyone down.

‘I don’t want it to be like, ‘You guys wanted me to do it and now I’m s**t’. So I felt that pressure, and to get the slow-motion walk right…’

Maya looked effortlessly elegant in a plunging black halterneck waistcoat embellished with gold buttons.

She teamed her gorgeous ensemble with a black panelled skirt and gave herself a few extra inches with a pair of strapped black stilettos

The radio DJ accessorised her look with a pair of chunky gold earrings and styled her glossy brunette locks loosely in glamorous waves.

She accentuated her natural beauty with lashings of mascara, her signature slick of eyeliner and a touch of brown lipstick.

Maya appears on the show, which is set to air on Saturday evening, alongside Niall Horan, Prue Leith and Tom Davis as they caught up with host Jonathan, 62.

Talking about her famous sexy strut on the show, she explains: ‘You do a normal strut about three or four times. You have to sexy it up a little bit.

‘Me and my friends the night before I went had a big girls’ night and they were like ‘OK, show us how you’re going to walk.’

‘As soon as I got there and the camera crew was there, I was like, ‘I can’t do it’, but you do it four or five times and they choose the best.’

The group were seen having a jovial time as they hilariously held up paddles during a cheeky game of Never Have I Ever, with Niall looking surprised at Maya and Prue, 83.

One Direction star Niall, 29, cut a dapper figure in a grey suit and a cream striped shirt, which he styled with a pair of smart patent shoes.

He styled his brunette locks in a natural curled style and sported well-groomed facial hair as he lounged on the yellow sofa before taking to the mic to perform.

Speaking on the show, Niall said it is ‘not even weird’ to be recognised in a public toilet by a fan but that he always suggested going outside before taking a snap together.

Abeing asked about being recognised in public bathrooms, he said: ‘That’s not even weird to me now. That’s how often it happens… [I have to say], ‘Maybe outside?!’

Niall is set to celebrate his milestone 30th birthday in September and said he is ‘looking forward’ to the occasion and will ‘do something fancy’ with his childhood best friend.

He said: ‘I’m looking forward to it. I’m not one for attention. So I’m going to do a little double birthday with my best mate from since we were like three years of age. No idea what we’re doing yet. Go to the pub or do something fancy… probably the first one.’

He is due to release his third solo studio album The Show in June and said he often turned to Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi for advice when cutting the record.

He said: ‘Lewis, or Ed Sheeran, if he’s about, I’ll see if I can get some sort of an opinion. They’re so used to releasing stuff all the time. I get a gauge off them of where I’m at.

‘I remember Ed, during lockdown I was really struggling to get any creative juices flowing, and Ed just said to me, ‘You’re going to have to swim through some of the s***** water to get to the clear stuff.’

Meanwhile on the show, The Great British Bake Off judge Prue cut a chic figure in a vibrant blue and pink patterned shirt and black trousers.

She completed her look with her signature pink frames and accessorised with a chunky fuchsia pendant necklace.

King Gary star Tom, 43, also looked stylish in a pair of printed trousers and a black shirt as he joined the fellow stars on the chat show.

Maya’s appearance on the chat show comes just days before she is set to return to South Africa to host the hotly-anticipated Love Island final.

After eight weeks of dramatic recouplings, explosive rows and brutal dumpings, the winter series is finally set to draw to a close on Monday night.

Maya will be hitting screens live from the villa in Cape Town for the final, with the islanders also live for the first time since entering the reality show.

She has not yet set set off for the southernmost tip of the African continent, but is expected to jet out over the weekend, to give herself and producers time to prepare for the final.

The grand final will take place on Monday 13 March, airing live from South Africa on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm. Extended from the show’s usual hour-long run, the episode will finish up at 10:35pm.

From the turmoil of Casa Amor wreaking havoc on relationships to Aussie Love Island legends Jessie Wynter and Aaron Waters making a return to the show – there was plenty of action to get stuck into.

But after another pair of islanders said their goodbyes this week, the end is in sight for our final ten islanders.

During Tuesday evening’s episode, a public vote booted Casey O’Gorman and Rosie Seabrook out of the villa as they were one of the three couples with the least amount of votes.

Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga also found themselves in that bottom three section alongside Will Young and Jessie – suggesting that these two couples could be more vulnerable than others ahead of the final.

Five couples still remain in the villa, with one expected to just miss out on their chance at winning the show in the live final.

The remaining couples are currently Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan, Tom Clare and Samie Elishi, Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins, Will and Jessie, and Shaq and Tanya.

Alongside the finalists and Maya, an audience will gather to watch the winning moment in real-life, as the final few days are recapped in pre-recorded segments.

Based on the public vote, one lucky couple will be crowned the winners of Winter Love Island during Monday’s live final, and awarded a cushty £50K to share.

While the show previously included a ‘share or steal’ segment to the final, this is likely not to feature this year.

Most winners of the show have been handed an envelope each, one with £0 and one with £50K written on it – with the contestant holding the latter being given the decision to keep it all for themselves, or split it with their partner.

But during the 2022 summer edition of the show, winners Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti weren’t given this option, with the money automatically being split.

While it hasn’t been confirmed that the segment is scrapped, it is likely that ITV have decided that it is no longer relevant – as every winner before has split the cash.

In addition to the money, islanders are often bombarded with press opportunities, brand partnerships and TV deals upon leaving the villa.

Meaning that even if they don’t win the show, most islanders could be headed for a more than satisfactory payday outside of the villa.
