She has racked up an impressive number of television stints at the tender age of 24.

Yet for Sydney Sweeney, the ‘glitz and the glamour’ that many assume comes as a package deal with showbusiness success is sometimes a far cry from reality, as she told NET-A-PORTER’s digital title, PORTER.

The actress reflected on the tearful plea she made to her 3.8million Instagram followers back in May where she urged them to understand the impact their words can have.

This came after she learned her name was trending on Twitter as cruel cyber bullies took swipes at her appearance.

‘There was nothing brave about it. It was a very low point. [People] see the glitz and the glamour and think that’s what your life is 24/7,’ she revealed to the publication.

In 2019, the American small-screen star, who, by that year had already snatched up roles in Netflix’s Everything Sucks! and dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale, began starring as Cassie Howard in HSO’s Euphoria.

Sydney has been focusing herself on wrapping up series two filming of the teen drama, which she believes depicts themes that are universal, not just for the younger generation.

Of the show’s graphic sex scenes and intimacy coaching, she quipped: ‘Sometimes, I’ll watch a scene after it airs and go, “holy s**t, I don’t even remember doing that – this looks way worse than it was!”‘

Not only is Sydney a blossoming starlet, she is also a trained mixed martial arts fighter and competed in grappling during school.

Regaling a moment she found fun subverting certain misconceptions as the only girl at a dojo (an MMA training centre), the combat sportswoman admitted she wanted to ‘f**k with all the guys’ [minds].’

‘I got all-pink everything – wraps, gloves, mouthguard, everything – because when you walk into the ring as a girl wearing pink, the guys are like “whatever”. But then, when you can kick their ass, it’s the greatest feeling ever,’ she admitted.

Sydney has high aspirations for future but doesn’t let this blur her background, candidly revealing to Porter that her family doesn’t come from a ‘boatload’ of money.

When they moved from Washington to Los Angeles, the expense of living in the Californian city caused them to lose their house back home, along with everything they owned.

The tell-all interview was rounded up by a grounded Sydney explaining how there are ‘so many different versions of me.’

She noted that she would never want to lose ‘who I am at my core’ and insisted that she maintains the ‘separations’ – including ‘red carpet Sydney’, the characters she plays and the Sydney that does interviews – in order to ensure that.
