Rihanna Arrived to the Met Gala Covered in Flowers in Enormous, Stunning Maternity Gown

If there’s anyone who knows how to dress to the Met Gala theme, it’s Rihanna. The singer, who’s pregnant with her and A$AP Rocky’s second child, graced the New York City event with her presence—albeit fashionably late, of course. Rihanna dressed impeccably in a white flower-covered, hooded gown by Valentino with an enormous skirt, embodying the night’s “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” theme. Rocky joined her on the carpet, but let her take the spotlight sartorially. As he should—this is her most high-profile maternity look yet:

Rihanna sparked rumors she would be attending the Met Gala when she was seen in Paris, wearing vintage Fendi designed by Lagerfeld. Rihanna spent the last week in the French city with Rocky and their son.

Met Gala 2023 live updates: Alia Bhatt, Rihanna look like a bride, Priyanka-Nick twin in black and white | Hindustan TimesThroughout both of her pregnancies, Rihanna has sought to redefine what maternity style can be. She told Bustle in March 2022 that during her first pregnancy, her goal was to be “maybe…rebellious” with her wardrobe. She continued, “When I saw women dress during their pregnancy [in the past], I’d think that that was the only way. So I challenged myself to push it further and really just have fun with [maternity style]. Because there’s nothing more fun than a challenge for me. Like that’s where I get creative. That’s where I’m forced to come up with new ideas and new ways to make it work.”

She added of her fashion outlook, “It’s been me personally saying, ‘I’m not going to buy maternity clothes. I’m not gonna buy maternity pants, jeans, dresses, or [do] whatever society told me to do before.’”
